Dhaka Central Jail, Keraniganj is located in Rajendrapur, Tahgharia union, Keraniganj, Bangladesh. On 10th April (Sunday) 2016, it was launched. The jail is built on 31 acres of land and total 4590 prisoners can live there. In July 2016, prisoners from Old Dhaka Central Jail were shifted to this jail. Since its opening, the prison has faced several problems including the lack of gas connections (the food had to be cooked by using the firewood), poor water connections, and lack of space in the visitor centre.
History:
In 1971, Bangladesh jail was established. After the Independence of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Jail was opened. They operate 13 central jails and 55 districts jails in Bangladesh.
